Designing the Screen-Based Interface: A 3D to 2D Migration

Concurrent to the rapid emergence of new products, design education is going through a transformation. The profession is largely focused on teaching a process toward the creation of form, with an understanding that form has the power to evoke interaction. The growing complexity and increased use of 3-dimensional products like DVD players and PDAs, as well as screen-based products such as web sites, CD-ROMs, and touch screen kiosks, has caused designers to shift their focus from design as a form-giving process, to design as a process of facilitating interaction.
